I decided to work from home the rest of this week. As I’m busily trying to finish up The Drone Keeper to get off to my editor, I’m also contending with incoming packages and other news. So when I heard Hazel making an odd warning sound, I laid down the laptop and ran to the door thinking it was perhaps the UPS driver.
When I opened it…at my knees was this big guy instead of the delivery man. He stood there as if he’d been knocking for some time, waiting impatiently for me to open the door. I jumped back, but then ran for my phone. (We humans are so odd…) by the time I returned, Henry was stalking him through the yard and Hazel was still harassing the poor guy with her warning yowl.
Because I know that raccoons don’t attack unless confronted, I called Henry back in time. I’d rather not make a trip to the vet this week if I can keep from it, because the raccoon was twice his size. I’m sure Henry would not have stood a chance. And I never leave food outside to avoid inviting the wildlife to my door. So this is a random visit from a local.
I do think they’re kind of cute…from afar.
In other news, many of you are getting ready for the holidays. Please be safe and if you know anyone who celebrates Christmas alone, why not check on them. This is one of the most difficult seasons to go through alone and add the isolation of the pandemic to the mix... Even a quick, “Hello, Merry Christmas,” could brighten their day. ❤️
